It’s a sleepy sort of place – in the best way - with rolling hills, pretty orchards and chocolate box villages. There are Arthurian legends to discover (Glastonbury Abbey is rumoured to be the final resting place of King Arthur and his beloved Guinevere); there’s green and serene countryside; and there’s the sort of pubs you pop into for one local cider, and end up staying for hours, waxing lyrical with your pals and ordering another pint.

But Somerset is so much more than cider and juggernaut festivals. Getting around Somerset is easy too. Rail links are excellent and you can be at London Paddington from Bath in just 90 minutes. Waterloo, Cardiff Central, Portsmouth, Weymouth, and Brighton are just some of the destinations easily reached by rail. The M5 runs through Somerset and connects Bristol with Exeter, plus other major roads criss-cross the county, like the A37 and A38, linking Somerset to Bristol – where you can catch domestic and international flights from Bristol Airport.
