Whitby lies approximately halfway between the larger seaside town of Scarborough some 7 miles to the south and Redcar adjoining the Teeside community approximately 15 miles to the northwest. It is most easily accessed from the larger Yorkshire area by way of the A169 heading north to it from Pickering.
